The Browning Hi-Power is the grandfather of the modern high-capacity semi-automatic 9mm pistol. The Original High-Capacity Wonder Nine | browning hi-power new production
When it comes to historical military pedigree, few handguns on earth match the legacy of the Browning Hi-Power (P-35). Engineered to transcend the capacity limitations of early 20th-century sidearms, this flagship 9mm pistol served on both sides of World War II and anchored elite military units for generations. Its defining innovation—the 13-round staggered magazine—set the blueprint for nearly every modern combat pistol in existence today, proving that a handgun could carry immense firepower without sacrificing an ergonomic grip profile.
Single-Action Only (SAO) Target Precision
The Browning Hi-Power operates on a crisp Single-Action Only (SAO) hammer-fired system. Unlike complex double-action systems, the Hi-Power requires the external hammer to be cocked (either manually or by the rearward motion of the slide) for the first shot. This configuration delivers an incredibly consistent, lightweight trigger pull from the first round to the last. The short mechanical reset and predictable break allow operators to achieve rapid target re-acquisition, making it an exceptionally accurate platform for competitive target shooting and defense.
All-Steel Construction and Foundational Ergonomics
Strength and balance are integrated into every corner of the Browning Hi-Power chassis. Constructed with a heavy-duty forged steel frame and slide, the pistol possesses the structural mass required to elegantly absorb the recoil of modern 9mm Luger ammunition. It utilizes John Browning’s iconic short-recoil cam system, a mechanical locked-breech breakthrough that eliminated the separate barrel link of the 1911 and became the foundational operating principle for the majority of modern handguns.
